 Description

At the moment, journal files are stored in a fixed subfolder of the data directory. Having those journal files on a separate disk to the data should improve performance, but when tested in Win 7 64Bit using a junction to map the journal directory to a separate disk, this actually gave worse performance (despite it being a faster disk). Presumably due to the overhead of junction redirects. I haven't been able to test the equivalent in Linux.

It would be good to be able to explicitly configure the location of the journal files, so as not to have to use junctions.

Please let us know if you cannot do with general system tools

I'm not sure that theory is correct.
On *nix you either use a symlink or mount which has absolutely no overhead once started.
So we should first make sure what the root issue is
