I had 3 existing nodes

added 4th.

4th couldn't reach 1st node in conf and kept trying, but never tried any others

Look at the log carefully.
It tried to reach www-c2 for ~ 10 minutes.
At that point I opened the firewall, so it was able to reach it and continue.

It looks like it initial synced correctly and is up and running... what error are you referring to?

Can you paste rs.status() from #4 and its log?
