Running the attached javascript in a linux environment completes in less than half a second.
Running the same code in a freebsd environment completes in about 10 seconds. Why is this?

Its not implying its a bug in freebsd, but a difference in how freebsd and linux handle certain things which is causing problems.
Its unclear what that problem is at this point.

I dont really think this is a freebsd problem, I too am eager to find a solution for this as all of my production servers run freebsd and this problem is holding me back from changing my current mysql databases to mongodb, im sure alot of other users are in the same predicament.

See SERVER-663
There is something odd about the way freebsd handles virtual memory that is causing problems.
