 Description

Hello!

I used MongoDB on ARM64 on my Ubuntu 16.04 machine but after upgrade to 18.04 I cannot use it anymore because you do provide ARM64 version of your packages for this operating system.

I checked your repos for Ubuntu 18.04 and can confirm that you do not have ARM64 packages here: http://repo.mongodb.org/apt/ubuntu/dists/bionic/mongodb-org/4.0/Release

I also attached error from my package manager:

apt-get update
Hit:1 http://ppa.launchpad.net/scaleway/stable/ubuntu bionic InRelease
Hit:2 http://ports.ubuntu.com/ubuntu-ports bionic InRelease
Hit:3 http://ports.ubuntu.com/ubuntu-ports bionic-updates InRelease
Hit:4 http://ports.ubuntu.com/ubuntu-ports bionic-backports InRelease
Hit:5 http://ports.ubuntu.com/ubuntu-ports bionic-security InRelease         Ign:6 https://repo.mongodb.org/apt/ubuntu bionic/mongodb-org/4.0 InRelease   Hit:7 https://repo.mongodb.org/apt/ubuntu bionic/mongodb-org/4.0 Release
Reading package lists... Done
N: Skipping acquire of configured file 'multiverse/binary-arm64/Packages' as repository 'https://repo.mongodb.org/apt/ubuntu bionic/mongodb-org/4.0 InRelease' doesn't support architecture 'arm64'

That's quite sad because we rely on MongoDB a lot

That's really awesome!!! Thank you so much for your effort! That's great step for MongoDB on ARM64!

With MongoDB 4.1.7+, we're building MongoDB DEBs for Ubuntu 18.04/Bionic ARM64 and adding them to our APT repo.

Thank you, pavel.odintsov! If you have any other questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out to me directly.

Sounds good.  We're starting the process of creating and then adding Ubuntu 18.04 ARM64 packages to the repo. I'll update the ticket when that's in place.

Thank you so much for very detailed response! Next development release (4.1/4.2) works for us very well, we can test it and provide feedback in case of any issues!

Thank you!

Hi pavel.odintsov,

Yes, today MongoDB 4.0 on ARM is only supported with Ubuntu 16.04

ARM is a bit of a challenge for us because it's not available in AWS. So our current plan was to add Ubuntu 18.04 ARM64 support for MongoDB 4.1->4.2 (current dev release which will become the next production release) soon. Is that helpful to you at all?

Once those machines are in place, then we could also potentially add Ubuntu 18.04 ARM64 as a supported platform for MongoDB 4.0. I'm discussing that with the team now.

Thank you for using MongoDB, and for letting us know about your platform needs!

Best Regards,

Matt
