geert.bosch, can this ticket be closed, or is there still uncertainty as to the success of the approach?

bruce.lucas, that sound like a feature request I think this ticket is just going to be closed without further work, so you might want to file a new ticket proposing readConcern:checkpoint if you've got some ideas around it.

This sounds like something that could potentially be of interest to applications as well for things like background analytics tasks - readConcern:checkpoint?
