I have installed Mongodb 4.2 through this guide]

and when running

sudo service mongod start|restart

It does not start the server and I have the log below in mongod.log file.

Exception in initAndListen: MustDowngrade: Collection does not have UUID in KVCatalog. Collection: local.startup_log, terminating

The link to the guide was not copied correctly so I'm not sure what guide you were following. It looks like you are starting against existing data files and didn't follow the full upgrade path for getting to 4.2 properly. Please ensure that you go through the upgrade process version-by-version and only start up 4.2.0 binaries against a dbpath that contains either 4.0 or 4.2 files.
