 Description

Hi Experts,

We are currently using Mongo DB 3.6.9 Community Version with CentOS 7.2 in our Product, and we are upgrading our OS to Cent OS 8 in order to address some security vulnerabilities.

We understand MongoDB 3.6.9 is not compatible with CentOS 8, and we need your recommendation on the next possible MongoDB community version that works fine in the CentOS 8 environment.

Please let us know if anything between 3.6.17 to 3.6.23 is a good choice, as it requires minimal efforts to upgrade our environment from 3.6.9.

Kindly help us +recommend Certified MongoDB Community Version that can be used with CentOS 8 in our produc+t, so that we shall consider the same

Thanks,

Kiran

kirankumar.pamula@gmail.com,

Our support documentation lists support by hardware architectures. The answer to your question will depend on that. For example, 3.6.17+ supports RHEL/CentOS/Oracle Linux 8.0 and later for x86_64 architectures, but 4.4 is required for RHEL/CentOS 8 on ARM64.

It looks like you have reported an issue in this community post. Is that right? If so, transferring those details to this ticket and providing the diagnostic information I requested here would be necessary for us to discuss further here.

But again, reproducing on MongoDB 4.0 if at all possible would be extremely helpful.

Eric

In short, let me put my request in crisp format below:

1) Is MongoDB 3.6.x Community Version qualified/compatible/recommended to run with CentOS 8 environment.

2)  Is MongoDB 4.0.x Community Version qualified/compatible/recommended to run with CentOS 8 environment.

Hi Eric,

Thanks for your response. Major version upgrade we plan to take care in upcoming releases. For now if we pickup/choose 3.6.23, would that be fine ? Is this qualified for CentOS 8. ? please confirm. Actually I am not able to clearly find if Mongo versions 3.6.23 and 4.0 are recommended to use with CentOS 8. Hence needing your advise on the same.

Thanks,

Kiran

Hi kirankumar.pamula@gmail.com,

The SERVER project is for bugs and feature requests, and our platform support documentation provides specifics.

If you are seeing a specific issue, we'd be happy to take a look here in this ticket. Just describe the issue in detail and for each node in the replica set spanning a time period that includes the incident, would you please archive (tar or zip) and upload to that link:

  • the mongod logs
  • the $dbpath/diagnostic.data directory (the contents are described here)

In general, I would say if you don't have a compelling reason to use a lower version, you should not consider a version lower than 3.6.23. Further, since version 3.6 is reaching end of life in about 1 month (April 2021) I'd recommend moving to at least 4.0 as soon as you can.

Eric

Hi Experts,

Could you please help on this, as we need this information urgently, but the topic is still showing up in "Needs Verification" stage for last two days.

Thanks,

Kiran
