When I run mongod with no args one of the output lines is:
On Windows the POSIX path name separater, with forward slashes, are incorrect and confusing. Print the native path format for better readability. |

Forward slashes are legal path separators on Windows. |

Alec, the default path is by design (<drive>:\data\db) but the error message should be more windows friendly, yes. I've updated the issue to correct the formatting issue with the error message. |
