Short-term solution. Longer-term we're planning to reorg the variants so release variants are separate from variants developers rely on for day-to-day activity. This will allow us to compile once for almost all changes. |

robert.guo, david.bradford, should this change be backported to speed up required patch builds on older branches too? Also, what follow-up ticket tracks the follow up work to eliminate this redundant compile? |
