 Description

Provide insight into the user experience on virtual workstations with an extensible set of validation tests for common activities like compiling with icecream and debugging with utilities in the toolchain.

Motivation:

  • Minimize unintended side affects due to OS or hardware changes
  • Instill more confidence in the real world experience of the build system, the toolchain, and icecream.
  • Empower all engineers to ideate and try improvements to the local experience. We currently have a self-service ansible provisioning environment that has not been widely used outside of the infrastructure team. This ticket makes it possible for any engineer to promote and implement changes to the day-to-day development experience.

Make sure you have the pip modules installed and that you are in a virtual workspace

Another check could be this one

I think round one of this is going to be small (maybe just check to see if you have enough disk space). Then, as questions get asked and answered in #server-build-help, we would add checks there.
