 Description

We can leverage rules_oci to build and push the container. This will help reduce flakiness.

Defining the container build/push process in bazel sounds nice but I agree this would be a fairly sizable rewrite. I have a few questions on this:

  • How does it reduce flakiness? I did a quick search but wasn't able to find anything online
  • Does this give us any other immediate wins for areas we currently have trouble with?

It seems like the right direction to go, but I think the raw docker-cli approach the mongo-container repo is using should serve us for the immediate future with a few minor tweaks.

This would be a large rewrite. It is a good idea but I don't think we will get to it anytime soon since there is a lot that is nice with our current container build (namely multi arch build/test). For that reason I would advocate we close this issue since we will likely not do it within the next few years.
