yes - but i think i started abstracting out some stuff into a ReplTest class, so should look into that.

In a couple of very unscientific tests, Eliot's smallfiles change reduced the repl2.js time from 55 sec to 45 sec on my machine. Should I implement for all the repl tests?

added a --smalfiles option for this - will try

helped a little, and is much nicer to the drives
still takes 20 minutes to run though

I disabled prealloc, let's see how it goes

yes - just for speed. disabling prealloc for repl/pairing/sharding tests would be good

You mean to make the tests faster? One simple way to do this would be to disable file preallocation for repl/pairing tests.
