                    <description>&lt;p&gt;currently we only support mongodb extended JSON format. It might be useful to support alternative formats such as the shell JSON format.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;I think we can keep this contained to serialization only, as deserialization would be a whole other can of worms.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;This can probably be done with a visitor style callback vtable similar to &lt;tt&gt;bson_visitor_t&lt;/tt&gt;.&lt;/p&gt;</description>
