This would come in handy when using SSH Tunnel with dynamic port forwarding. aka SSH.NET
</comment>

 I spiked out an implementation of a Socks5 proxy aware client the other day. Everything seems to work fine, even with replica sets which was my concern. I'm not sure when we'll schedule this to get formally handled, but we'll add it to our feature request queue so we don't forget.

Thanks for the suggestion.
</comment>

I'll look into this and see if there are any technical limitations that would prevent this from a server's point of view (replica sets, etc...).
</comment>

Another use case is to create a proxy filter, to restrict mongoDB clients in some way.
</comment>

What circumstances would this be useful to you? What features of a SOCKS5 proxy are you interested in that need explicit support.

Thanks,
