&lt;p&gt;The new GridFS specification does not support this directly as updates of existing files is not supported by the new API.  &lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;However, as we implement the &lt;tt&gt;InputStream&lt;/tt&gt; and &lt;tt&gt;OutputStream&lt;/tt&gt; duplicating and updating the contents of a file at a specific point should be possible with the new API.&lt;/p&gt;</comment>
