In ulimit settings - Resource Utilization, a description of how mongod and mongos use threads and file descriptors to track connections is provided. However, it would be useful to add the fact that the default value of the maximum number of connections is 80% of the confiugred "Max open connections" assuming that maxIncomingConnections is not set.
