Atlas VPC peering and cluster hostname resolution

    • Type: Icon: Task Task
    • Resolution: Fixed
    • Priority: Icon: Major - P3 Major - P3
    • None
    • Affects Version/s: None
    • Component/s: Atlas
    • Labels:

Many Atlas users using the VPC peering feature are a bit confused on which hostnames they need to use to configure their client applications.

They should always use the *.mongodb.net hostnames as shown in the "Connect" window in Atlas.

Please document in the Atlas docs (maybe in the FAQ) that:

      • the Atlas clusters hostnames will be resolved from the inside by the peered VPCs to the internal IP addresses within the Atlas CIDR Block
      • the Atlas clusters hostnames will be resolved to the external IP addresses if resolved from outside the peered VPCs, for example from any host connected to the Internet.

This is in addition to what said in DOCS-10281.
