Version 2.2 of the BIC features simplified authentication with the use of the new auth plug-ins. This alleviates significant user pain, and is a big enough deal that we should highlight the plugins on the BI Connector's docs homepage. I suggest the using the text which follows below, but please feel to make any editorial choices required to meet the required quality standards. Additional details on the auth plugins are available in the Product Overview Document

      SUGGESTED TEXT
Version 2 of the BI Connector was developed with an emphasis on increasing ease of use by means of passthrough authentication, where clients authenticate as a user declared in MongoDB, without need to create a separate user and password within the connector itself. Passthrough authentication greatly simplified user management in general, but resulted in two important consequences.

Version 2.2 of the BI Connector further increases ease of use aroud authentication by publishing a set of authentication plugins, which can be used to authenticate through the BI Connector securely and without the need for SSL certificates as was required in version 2.0 & 2.1. These plugins perform user authentication via the SASL framework and supports the SCRAM-SHA-1 and PLAIN authentication mechanisms. We currently provide authentication plugins in the following languages

Java - for use with MySQL’s connector-j driver
C - for use with the MySQL ODBC driver and the MySQL Shell
Go - for use with the MySQL go-sql-driver
