The background index creation process is detailed on this Doc page:
It might be nice for the above page to include a note that will say something like:
"You can create multiple background indexes in parallel, on the same database."
I have tested this behavior in MongoDB 3.6.1. (Not sure about the behavior in previous versions - that will need to be confirmed.)
