So far Ubuntu 18.04. This does not affect Ubuntu 20.04. I have not tested this on version 16.04 or 14.04

      Hi Docs team,

We've had a few cases recently where users are running into an issue when using mongodump on their Ubuntu 18.04 VM. The error was error parsing uri: lookup tmp-drp-restore.ebcxs.mongodb.net on 127.0.0.53:53: cannot unmarshal DNS message.

Having tested this, it seems to be only affecting Ubuntu v18.04 and not v20.04. The customer was using the latest version of mongodump v100.7.0. This problem seems to be due to non-compliant DNS resolvers or DNS Servers (i.e. Ubuntu 18.04's native DNS resolver systemd, etc)) in the wild. This issue can be bypassed on Ubuntu 18.04 by modifying the /etc/resolv.conf file to point directly at another DNS resolver instead of going through the systemd-resolver.

      Requested Action:

A suggestion would be to update our mongodump/mongorestore platform compatibility section of the documentation or add a note to highlight this issue so that customers are aware? Ty.
