Description
The Linux OOM killer can kill mongod/mongos in certain circumstances such as:
- when having no (or too little) swap
- having overcommit memory to 2 and a non optimal overcommit ratio.
The production notes currently only have a small mention of this under "swap" which doesn't provide any guidance on appropriate swap or sysctl settings to play well with the OOM Killer:
Assign swap space for your systems. Allocating swap space can avoid issues with memory contention and can prevent the OOM Killer on Linux systems from killing mongod.
