Description
The OSX startup instructions are unclear as written. Other people on stackoverflow were confused too.
I installed with homebrew:
brew install mongo
then started server:
mongod --config /usr/local/etc/mongod.conf [12:44:10]
all output going to: /usr/local/var/log/mongodb/mongo.log
then in a new terminal window:
mongo
(connecting to test)
use dbname
(switches to dbname)
db.messages .insert(
)
(creates collection and document if does not exist)
show collections //to see the results
(lists collections
messages system.indexes)
