MMS Backup and Monitoring Agent upgrade instructions simply says "Stop any running backup [or monitoring] agents." Some customers could use more detail. Microsoft provides instructions at: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc736564(v=ws.10).aspx

In the Backup Agent case the customer should look for any services named "MMS Backup Agent" and stop them using the right-click menu (or the "Actions" menu).
