In 3.2, db.currentOp() is implemented as a command, since the special collection can no longer be queried via the new find command. The command can be seen by examining the source of the helper method in the mongo shell; however, there is no documentation stub for it. It would be helpful if it existed in the general list of commands, since some users may want to call it outside of the mongo shell. Typically, helper methods will link to the wrapped command (when applicable).
