The page https://docs.mongodb.com/manual/tutorial/merge-chunks-in-sharded-cluster/ contains a very outdated tutorial regarding mergeChunks. Specifically, the page claims that:
1. The mergeChunks command requires at least one empty input chunk.
2. mergeChunks merges two contiguous chunks on the same shard, where at least one of the contains no data.
Both are false, since MongoDB from version 2.7.1 allows mergeChunks to merge more than two non-empty chunks: https://jira.mongodb.org/browse/SERVER-13385
