Our debian packaging efforts have so far focused on getting the mongo-c-driver and libbson packages out.

Unfortunately, the PHP and HHVM drivers are currently relying on private symbols. This means until that is resolved (not anytime soon) we need the -priv.so to also be available in the packaging systems.
Without it, we cannot get PHP and HHVM into the upstream packaging repositories.
