The C++ Driver defines and enforces a list of minimum supported compiler versions in its CMake configuration. The C Driver would benefit from a similar pattern to document and enforce our build-from-source compiler compatibility and support requirements.
Currently, a list of compilers which are "continually tested" is documented in the Driver Manual doc pages. These may be simplified to minimum required compiler versions instead (forward compatibility with sufficiently recent releases assumed to be a given). Updates to target platform support (e.g. by OS or architecture) is out-of-scope for this ticket.
