The data-service and instance-helper try processing things that just don't exist (anymore). E.g. it tries to compute shard detail information from a shard field as (hopefully) returned by collStats but it just doesn't exist. In order to reduce the typing overhead and clear things up before future refactoring, we should go over the package and throughly cleanse it.
