This is coming out of our tech alignment discussion. We would like to ensure that a default maxTimeMs is always applied (when not explicitly specified) to all the operations executed by the DataService.

One of the solutions discussed was to add a null check and make sure that maxTimeMs is applied in the positive case otherwise not.
