Our extended JSON date time parsing code claims to be parsing RFC 822 date strings.

The extended JSON spec however refers to RFC 3339 date strings.

Investigate the difference between the two RFCs and verify our compliance with our own extended JSON spec with respect to date strings.

This might involve adding support for formats we currently don't support, and/or removing support for formats we no longer wish to support.
