      Background:

DRIVERS-2945 proposes the addition of a new explicitly supported AWS Authentication mechanism for EKS Pod Identity.

DRIVERS-2475 advises drivers to use the AWS SDK where possible.

DRIVERS-2903 Allows users to provide custom AWS configuration.

      Proposal:

This ticket proposes that we set an explicit policy for AWS Authentication support.

      • Drivers WILL NOT add explicit support or testing for new AWS Authentication mechanisms.
However, DRIVERS MUST prioritize DRIVERS-2475 or DRIVERS-2903.
      • For cases like DRIVERS-2945 or any use case that is outside the baseline capability offered by all drivers, users have the option to use the custom AWS configuration or rely on the the SDK, if provided by the driver.
      • The drivers team will not explicitly test capabilities that are provided by the SDK, but MUST ensure that the SDK is tested with the existing set of tests, to ensure the driver is working properly with the SDK.
