Summary
There presently exist dozens of ODM libraries for MongoDB across various languages. While most of these projects are entirely community-driven, some are officially maintained and supported by MongoDB (e.g. Mongoid, PyMODM) or developed in part by MongoDB employees or contractors (e.g. Mongoose, Doctrine). The majority of these libraries are developed independently of one another. While projects may draw inspiration from an ORM library in their ecosystem (e.g. Mongoid and ActiveRecord), there is generally limited knowledge sharing across ODM projects themselves. As a result, designs and features may vary heavily from one ODM library to the next.
