      Context

      Django 5.2 is an LTS: upstream applies security and data-loss fixes to stable/5.2.x for ~3 years from its 2025-04-02 release, so through approximately April 2028.

      Definition of done

      New documentation is added to our CONTRIBUTING.md and made clearly visible for our greenerbuild such that any time there is an update to django-mongodb-backend, folks on the team are aware of the checklist of steps they need to execute to properly ensure backport support.

      Pitfalls

      Make sure the steps are as explicit as possible. Consider if there is any automation or alerting that can help us with tracking upstream changes in the future.
