Detailed steps to reproduce the problem?
>>> import bsonjs
>>> bsonjs._version_
'0.3.0'
The installed package (per pyproject.toml) is actually 0.8.0.dev0. bsonjs._version was set from a hardcoded string literal in bsonjs/bsonjs.c and was never updated as the package version moved on, since python-bsonjs is a single-file C extension with no pure-Python init_.py to derive the version from installed package metadata at import time.
Definition of done: what must be done to consider the task complete?
bsonjs._version_ matches the package version and can't drift silently again — e.g. read the version out of pyproject.toml at build time and bake it into the extension via a compiler macro. Fix already up: mongodb-labs/python-bsonjs#113.
