Mongoid::Errors::Validations exceptions for associations at random

      My Rails 3 app gets into this weird state at random and doesn't recover until after restarting the web processes. I get errors on associations like these:
      Validation failed - User can't be blank.

      The user does exist in the database and is passed in as user_id. Any ideas?
