      Goal

      When users are working the new shell, they should be notified with a message directly inside the shell if a newer version is available. This would also help raising adoption of new releases with bugfixes and/or features.

      Additional Notes

      We may be able to leverage the update-notifier NPM package (https://github.com/yeoman/update-notifier#readme) for detection.
