• External refactor ticket for findNull results in less code to maintain, which is also simpler to read

• Small behavioural change in this PR in that negative offsets no-longer walk up to the null terminator. Likely desirable behaviour.

• findNull loop is refactored to be more readable and maintainable by removing unnecessary bound check and collapsing increment.
