I would like to propose to add a console warning at application boot time if some form of wire compression is not enabled (i.e. on the default client)

Users might expect compression to happen by default, since the DB is compressed by default, then be surprised by their network usage / bill when they learn wire is not compressed.

Not sure this belongs in Mongoid or Ruby Driver.
