I thought we had compilation time included in the benchmarks already, but it doesn't seem to be there.  We should do that so we can see how we're trending over time.

Once that's in place, it seems likely there's some low-hanging fruit to lower the time.  Off the top of my head, potential avenues:

• pruning dependencies
• code-generation instead of macros
• reducing generics
