We should add a test that shows if a write is retried:

• We don't record the stats for the initial attempt (which would have failed)
• We do record the stats for the attempt that succeeds

We do have some logic in our code that makes it possible to handle writes that are retried, so it would be good to explicitly cover this. It should be sufficient to write a JS test.
