Testing the plan cache is inherently hard as there are many aspects of the system that might determine of you want to replan or cache a solution. Specifically in: jstests/core/query/or/subplanning_blocked_during_replanning.js a sequence of inserted documents is used to trigger the replan. A fail point which can be set can be used to trigger replanning.
