Right now the write path for persisted samples does not respect the override because it does not pass in a third arg to calculateSampleSize.
The read path also does not respect the override because it also does not pass in a third arg.
This means that if someone specifies internalSamplingSizeOverride, neither the read nor write path will respect it.
