      During execution of the authoritative shards program we haven't focused too much on providing easy to use observability metrics that don't require deep knowledge of the system.

      In principle we have added some FTDC statistics for the program (SERVER-131669, SERVER-129205) but we haven't checked if these metrics are actually helpful in a real-life scenario.
