When m of n sampled documents match the bounds, with d distinct values, estimateNDV returns newtonRaphsonNDV(d, n). If there is a selective leading point interval, that can results in large underestimate.
Proposed fix
For NDV with bounds use the number of matching documents m instead of the sample size n: estimate newtonRaphsonNDV(d, m)
Without bounds the results are unchanged.
