For persistent samples, the sampling method reported in explain is determined at read time, meaning that whether or not fullCollScan was used is based on the collection size at read time rather than when the sample was generate and persisted. If the collection size changed between persisting and reading then the wrong sampling method might be reported.

In order to report this accurately, we'd have to store the actual sampling method used in the sample doc metadata.
