Summary
mongod gained the ability to read data from named pipes in SPM-2971 (released 6.2.0, behind a feature flag, via $_externalDataSources virtual collections) so that ADF could run queries through mongod directly instead of transient mqlrun processes.
Windows is not a supported configuration for this feature: ADF does not run on Windows (confirmed with the ADF team, see comment), and no known deployment requires Windows named pipes. The Windows-specific code paths and tests for named pipe support are therefore dead weight.
Scope
- Remove the Windows named pipe handling from the $_externalDataSources ingestion paths.
- Remove Windows-specific named pipe tests and build scaffolding.
- Leave POSIX named pipe (FIFO) support unchanged.
