OSX tar returns error on source tarball - "damaged tar archive"

      I manually fixed the 3.1.5 tarball but can reproduce with the 'distsrc' scons target locally. 

      [ernie@eahimac ~]$ tar tvf mongodb-src-r3.1.5.tar.gz > /dev/null
tar: Damaged tar archive
tar: Error exit delayed from previous errors.
