SERVER-2227 provides a per-index counter to track index usage along with a $indexStats aggregation source that allows for retrieval. While this provides the raw data needed to analyze it is still non-trivial to track usage in a sharded cluster where read preference other than "primary" is used.

A shell helper that facilitates cross cluster retrieval, aggregation and collection will allow for easier use.
