Add additional logging in validate_tests to help diagnose failed collection validation assertions

      In one of our build failures, we had validate_tests fail but it is impossible to figure out what went wrong as there was no useful logging, data files or core dumps to diagnose. This will improve the validate_tests to give us more information when it fails the next time.
