We have a collection of functions and data types designed to help with the lowest level of the wire protocol.

Notable pieces include (but are not limited to):

• OpMSG
• Message
• Protocol
• WireVersion

These pieces should be described in src/mongo/rpc/README.md. There are probably some additional things in this folder that could use documentation, but those four pieces are the ones most people will eventually see.

This is intended to be abstract documentation, describe relationships and state transitions not code in common language.
